First class graduates from control tower program in Selma

From the West Alabama Newsroom–

The first graduates of a new Control Tower Operator Partnership Program in Selma — are now ready to start careers in the aviation industry.

Waka Atcgraduation0808 PkgDrew Pacer of Ohio is one of seven new graduates of Advanced ATC’s CTOP program.

“This program is specifically designed to help the FAA staffing levels in the federal contract world,” said Advanced ATC Chief Operating Officer Dan Cunningham.

“There’s approximately 260 federal contract towers in the United States and they operate anywhere from 4 or 5 controllers per facility.”

“ATC being the first school to get certified to send their students that are trained here to those towers to be certified — is going to help with the shortage at the federal control towers,” said Craig Field Airport and Industrial Authority Executive Director Jim Corrigan.
