Tallassee boy battling brain cancer surprised with Disney World trip
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) — A 7-year-old from Tallassee who has been battling stage 4 brain cancer is getting the trip of a lifetime to Disney World, thanks to the Magic Moments organization.
Chance, who is undergoing weekly chemotherapy treatments in Birmingham, learned Thursday night that he and his family will spend a week in Orlando this December. Dozens of well-wishers joined Magic Moments in Hampstead to surprise him with the news.
“I’m gonna say, ‘Hey! Hey! I love you!’” Chance said of his plans to greet Mickey Mouse, his favorite character. He added that he’s also looking forward to riding roller coasters — “if they’re not too big.”
His mother, Katrinda Jackson, said the trip will give the family much-needed time to relax. “We are praying that it will be a good week of just being laid-back and enjoying everything at Disney World,” she said. “He’s a real tough kid because you look at him, and you can’t even tell anything is wrong with him.”
Magic Moments, Alabama’s only wish-granting organization for children with life-threatening conditions, will provide once-in-a-lifetime experiences to 115 children statewide this year. Executive Director Rachel Rounsaville said the goal is to give children positive memories that last for years.
Chance will travel by airplane for the first time with his mother and two sisters when they head to Disney World in December.
