Marion residents voice health concerns about raw sewage problem
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
A group of Marion residents say lingering sewage problems — are raising major health concerns around the city.
The group says free flowing raw sewage at locations around the city is putting people’s health at risk.
They say they’ve taken the issue before city leaders more than once — but feel like their concerns have fallen on deaf ears.
“My concerns is that people are going to begin to get sick from this water and inhaling this raw sewage,” said Florence Parker.
City officials say they’re currently in the process of addressing the problem.
“The whole lift station need to be totally replaced,” said Mayor Dexter Hinton.
“But in the meantime to keep them limping along until all the material and stuff get in we’re sucking them down and submitting our SSO reports to ADEM to stay in compliance. We’ve already bid it and approved the bids and everything. It’s in the ordering phase now.”
Officials at ADEM confirmed that it has an ongoing investigation of the complaint underway.
