Flood water from the swollen Alabama River in Selma have already swallowed up buildings and shut down several roads — and with another round of rain in the forecast some people are concerned the flooding will get worse.

The Sandbar Restaurant at the Selma city marina is nearly underwater, and so is the walking trail, and the playground at Bloch Park.

The Selma Center for Non-Violence is also located on the banks of the river. Staff members say they’re doing all they can to minimize the damage at their facility — should the river rise any higher.

“We went downstairs and we elevated everything up off the floor about two foot, two or three feet off the floor,” said Edwin Ellis.

Dallas Co. EMA officials say the Alabama River is not expected to fall below flood stage until January 1st.
