Alabama Emergency Management Agency Director Meets with Local EMA Directors
State emergency officials are urging everyone to stay vigilant and prepared to evacuate low areas if needed.
“Our local governments and our local EMA’s have been working around the clock for days,” says Director of Alabama’s Emergency Management Agency, Art Faulkner.
Faulkner says right now they are continuing to monitor rainfall and safely access damages.
“There’s still a lot of places in the state of Alabama thats still under water and it could be the first of next week before we’re able to get teams out in those areas and access that damage.”
The agency is also working with FEMA to possibly receive funding for public infrastructure damages.
“We’ve got to get up around $7 million…$6.7 million for the governor to be able to request that assistance from FEMA.
Last week Governor Robert Bentley issued a state of emergency, which remains in effect and local officials want everyone, especially drivers to be on alert.
“We’ve like to urge that those drivers use extreme caution and if I would like to say also if there is a road barricaded please do not remove those barricades,” says Elmore County EMA Director, Eric Jones.
“We hate to be in a response mode but its going to happen and we make sure our communications are good. This is why we plan and exercise when the sun is shining.”
