2-year-old killed, three young children injured in Macon County crash

MACON COUNTY, Ala. (WAKA) — A 2-year-old child was killed and three other young children were injured in a two-vehicle crash in Macon County, authorities said.

The crash happened just after 6 p.m. Saturday on Macon County 51, about one mile south of Franklin, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Investigators said a commercial truck struck a Nissan Altima in which the four children were riding. The 2-year-old was taken to a local hospital, where the child later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

A 1-year-old, another 2-year-old and an 8-year-old were also injured and transported to a hospital for treatment. Their conditions have not been released.

ALEA is investigating the cause of the crash.
