Montgomery is a city that saw the beginning of the civil war and eventually kick started the civil rights movement.
Jeremy Cromblin usually hosts tours about the haunted history of the city, but now he’s turning his sights to Dr. King and others.
“It was really really interesting to find out these names that are a part of history but not really mentioned in the history books. It was very nice to find and discover these people who helped formulate the city and transform the streets into what it is today,” said Cromblin.
The tour started at the greyhound station where a mob met a group of freedom riders. As they walked, they saw other parts of town, remembering where Dr. King was jailed and seeing parts of town involving the slave trade.
Francesca Buford came out with her daughter to learn more about Montgomery.
“A lot of people in the city have no clue what went on during the 50’s so it’s very important that we keep abreast of that and we build on that from a community standpoint,” said Buford.
“I’m not a history major but it is very exciting to know where I grew up and the historical background, it’s very awesome,” said her daughter Jasmine Williams.
Cromblin says this was the perfect day to launch the new tour.
“Today, well today I could not let today pass without starting at least a soft opening. Because today is a very historic day being MLK day and I thought it was the perfect opportunity to start and we’ll have our grand opening next month but we plan to tour year round.”
If you’re interested in taking the tour, it’s five dollars. You can call 334-595-9243 to reserve a spot.
