22nd annual Autism Crawfish Boil at DABOS Park in Montgomery
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – The 22nd annual Autism Crawfish Boil was this past weekend at DABOS Park here in Montgomery.
The crawfish boil raises money for the non-profit organization, Easterseals Central Alabama, who serves more than 2000 Alabamians across 31 counties. Easterseals provides different programs and therapies for those with autism, and they serve other needs as well.
The crawfish boil raises money for the organization, and they had thousands of people show up throughout the day to enjoy ice cold beverages, live music, and crawfish.
“Year after year, we have more and more people coming out to support this cause, and I think it’s because everybody knows somebody. You either have a loved one, or you know someone with a loved one who’s got a child living with autism, and they understand how important these interventions are. They know that they can come out here and have a really good time, while doing it for an even greater cause,” said Stefania Jones, Co-Chair of the Autism Crawfish Boil Committee.
“We’ve been serving adults and children with disabilities since 1961. The programs that are being funded today are our autism services. All of the proceeds are going to benefit our speech therapy, occupational therapy, and we’ve got specialized programs like food school and hippotherapy. We’re really proud to be able to offer programs like that, and it’s events like this that allow us to do that,” said Executive Director of Easterseals Central Alabama, Debbie Lynn.
