What The Tech App of the Day: Buggg

BY JAMEY TUCKER, Consumer Tech Reporter

Few things are better than meeting up with a friend for coffee, a walk, or just a few minutes to catch up.

The problem is knowing when someone else actually has free time. Most of us don’t want to send the “Hey, are you free?” text because it can feel like we’re bugging them.

That’s the idea behind an app called Buggg. The app is designed for close friends who want to spend more time together but don’t always know when the other person is available.

After downloading the app, you invite your friends to join your group. Then, when you have some free time, you turn on your status. You can say how much time you have, whether it’s 30 minutes or the whole afternoon, and what you’re interested in doing.

Maybe you’re down for coffee. Maybe it’s a walk, online games, FaceTime, or meeting up in real life. You can also add personalized tags so your friends know exactly what kind of hangout you have in mind. When one of your friends is free too, they’ll be able to see your status. If notifications are turned
on, they’ll get an alert.

Of course, there is one hurdle. Your friends need the app too. And because Buggg is still new, you probably won’t open it today and find your whole circle already there.

But the idea is a good one. In an age where so much of our social life happens online, Buggg is trying to make it easier to spend time with people in person. It could be the difference between another afternoon staring at a screen and actually meeting up with a friend.

Buggg is a free app for iPhone and Android devices.
