Montgomery police: Man fired more than 30 rounds at officers responding to domestic disturbance
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – Montgomery police say a man fired more than 30 rounds at officers who were responding to a domestic disturbance.
Police say 39-year-old Jarvis Bowers is charged with two counts of attempted murder and firing a gun into an unoccupied vehicle.
Police say at around 11:30 last night, they were called to a domestic disturbance in the 9400 block of Bristlecone Drive, which is the Deer Creek subdivision.
Police say when they arrived, they found an intoxicated man who had armed himself with multiple weapons, including a rifle equipped with a high-capacity magazine. During their approach, police say Bowers fired more than thirty rounds at them. No officers were injured.
MPD SWAT responded to the scene and took Bowers into custody without further incident. Bowers was taken to the Montgomery County Detention Facility, where he is being held with no bond.
Montgomery Chief of Police James Graboys issued the following statement:
“Our officers showed exceptional courage under fire, and I am thankful they returned home unharmed. Their actions reflect the strength and discipline of this department. Hear me clearly: If you attack our officers, you will not escape justice. If you pull a trigger at law enforcement, your freedom ends the moment we place you in handcuffs. We will pursue you, we will catch you, and we will prosecute you fully, every single time.”
Police have released no other information about the domestic disturbance.
