SELMA PRESSER 2

We now know how the city of Selma will commemorate the struggle for voting equality. Plans are now set.

We are one month away from the commemoration of the “March on Selma”. Thousands flock to the Queen City every year to mark the moments that led up to the Voting Rights Act of 1965. This year they will have a welcome reception, business empowerment symposium, gala and concert.

City leaders know last years event with speakers like President Obama will be a tough act to follow.

George Evans, Selma Mayor said, “It was unreal. Last year was truly off the chain, unreal we couldn’t even plan for that. Had we had a choice of indicating whether or not we wanted that many people in Selma we probably would have voted no. There was over 100 thousand people who came on Saturday and Sunday in our city for the 50th. And I don’t think I’ll witness anything like that again in my lifetime.”

It all kicks of on Thursday, March 3rd and will end with a bridge crossing reenactment on Sunday.
