Troy Rec Center Opens as Storm Shelter
Last week’s storms that came through Pike County left damage in some areas and officials want to make sure everyone is safe overnight.
The Troy Rec Center on Enzor Road opened as a shelter Tuesday evening. The center is not a certified storm shelter earlier this evening. The center is not a certified storm shelter but its being used for an option for those that don’t feel safe at home. Pike County EMA Director Jeanna Barnes says everyone should remember to take severe weather seriously and never take chances.
“In last week’s storm we actually had a tornado in the southeast part of the county and we didn’t get a tornado warning for that it was during a severe thunderstorm warning so we want people to understand we may not get a warning for every tornado we get,” Pike County EMA Jeanna Barnes.
The staff at the Rec Center do have plans in place if a tornado is spotted.
