Dallas Avenue Bridge Project in Selma Nearly Complete

From the West Alabama Newsroom–   A major construction project that shut down part of one of the busiest streets in Selma is nearly finished.

The project to replace the bridge over Valley Creek on Dallas Avenue — closed off one the city’s main thoroughfares for close to a year.

Two lanes of traffic on the street are already open — and Selma Mayor George Evans says all four lanes should be open by the end of the week.

“I’m real happy about that,” said Evans. “I think its really been a hardship on a lot of people in the neighborhoods as well as the businesses.”

“One of the great things about here is having the ability to get from place to place, school, work, functions, downtown within five to eight minutes when you live within the city limits of Selma,” said resident Jana Garner.

“So with the bridge being out it added at least ten to fifteen minutes each way to your day plus the extra traffic.”

The project also included the installation of new guard rails and rod-iron fencing at the bridge site.
