Crowded Primary Race Heating up in Macon Co.

We have a little more than a month left before election primaries here in Alabama.

One county in our area has the most local candidates on its ballots in years. There are sixteen candidates running to fill three offices in Macon County.

The offices of Sheriff, District Judge and Revenue Commissioner are all up for grabs since incumbents are retiring. Local officials say that means more people might be voting than ever before.

“I am expecting a large turnout this time, because with all of these candidates being involved, they’re going to all bring their own cadre, so we should expect to have a great turnout. I hope we’ll have upwards of 8,000 people voting,” said Probate Judge Alfonza Menefee.

“A lot of people say well, I’m not going to vote because they won’t do nothing but put it in the garbage. I don’t believe in that. I believe in everybody should vote,” said Harold Kimble, who lives in Macon County.

Primary elections are June third. If no one gets more than 50 percent of the vote, there will be a run-off between the top candidates.
