Butler Co. Gets Fatality Trailer For Emergencies And Disasters

The Butler County Emergency Management Agency has a new trailer, but they say they hope they never have to use it for its intended purpose.  Â
Butler County has a new fatality trailer. In a disaster, it can hold up to 18 bodies and has a refrigeration unit.
The EMA director, Shirley Sandy, says it comes from a $55,000 dollar Public Health Grant. She says if the state needs the trailer, they can call the county and have the trailer sent any where in Alabama, “They were put all over the state, like I said, but Butler County didn’t have one, and with having the railroads, the interstate, the hazards that we have, we just felt we needed one in this county to be better prepared.”
She says the trailer will also be used for other emergency purposes, like cooling down firefighters if they are battling long fires in the Summer, transporting emergency equipment, and getting food to people in the event of a disaster.
