Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build Day
It was a busy day at Portsmouth Court in Montgomery as volunteers united to build a special home.
Several of us from Alabama News Network painted trim and and walls along side other women, and it was all for a cause worth every bit of the time.
 “Gorgeous. I love it. I love it,” said home owner Paula Humphrey.
Paula Humphrey will be the owner of this house.
She got a tour of her new home as we worked.
“It is so amazing to see people take off of their jobs to come out and work on my house.”
Habitat for Humanity builds low cost, quality homes for families in need requiring the families to go through 400 “sweat” equity hours.
Executive Director Nick Mielke says “Miss Paula” has put in her time helping along other people to achieve their dreams.
“She has 2 boys. She works full time, she raises her children, and she has worked really hard in our program and very deserving of the opportunity to buy this house and have a no interest mortgage and provide a safe place to raise her children,” said Mielke.
But she’s not the only one getting the blessing.
 “She said thank you about 100 times and that makes me feel great that she is so gracious about what we’re doing and we can help somebody so sweet,” said volunteer Lauren Holena.
“You could tell that she is so excited to be able to move into this house and she’s really going to appreciate it. And it’s going to be a great thing for her and her boys,” said volunteer Haley Gilmore.
While there is still more work to be done on the house, Miss Paula says she is already seeing her hopes for her family coming true.
“This is my dream home and truly a blessing,” said Humphrey.
