ASU Instates Hiring Freeze

Alabama State University voted to instate a hiring freeze.

Will that impact the plan to completely reorganize the administration?

The ASU board of trustees officially accepted someone to a new position as part of the reorganization of the administration here. But they were concerned with the possibility of a hiring freeze, it could have been their last.

The university is changing the look of the administration. This comes after the school’s credit was downgraded. That future came into question with this hiring freeze. But Chairman Elton Dean says this isn’t a big change for the university.

“We declared a hiring freeze in Montgomery county for the last 5 or 6 years because the revenue was down. That was something anyway Dr. Boyd and I talked about for some time, filling positions, key positions,” said Dean.

And President Boyd says she made sure her plan would still be in place. The board decided her potential new hires with the reorganization would qualify as key positions, including the latest hire.

“What about those persons who are in the process waiting for that final signature? But our VP of IT is not officially on board, officially a part of the ASU family,” said Boyd.

Chairman Dean wanted to make it clear that the board and President Boyd are all on the same page.

“We’re going to have a good relationship working on the chart like there ought to be through a committee. I think we come out in one accord. I really do,” said Dean.

The board will meet again in a few weeks to officially decide the look of that reorganization for the university.
