Twins resume play after COVID pause

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — The Minnesota Twins are set to resume their schedule after postponing three games due to the club’s coronavirus issues. The Twins have had at least four positive coronavirus tests in the past week.

Games on Saturday and Sunday against the Los Angeles Angels were postponed, as was Monday’s opener of a series in Oakland. The Twins are slated to play a doubleheader against the A’s.

Elsewhere in the majors:

— White Sox left-hander Carlos Rodón faces the Indians in his first start since completing a no-hitter against Cleveland last Wednesday. Rodón came within two outs of a perfect game but hit a batter in the ninth inning of that 8-0 victory, the second no-hitter in the majors this season.

— Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr. is uncertain for the opener of a two-game series at Yankee Stadium after an MRI revealed a mild abdominal strain. Acuña was injured diving back into first base on a pickoff throw Sunday night. Atlanta was off Monday, giving the the 23-year-old a day to recover. The All-Star outfielder is off to a blistering start, hitting .419 with a major league-leading seven homers and 16 RBIs.

— Shohei Ohtani will face the Rangers for the first time in his career, while making his 14th major league start. He will square off in Anaheim against Rangers right-hander Jordan Lyles, who has given up six of his eight runs this season on home runs.

— The Los Angeles Dodgers, who’ve lost consecutive games for the first time this season, look to bounce back against the Mariners in Seattle.

— Two pitchers who’ve been struggling so far this season — Patrick Corbin of the Nationals and Adam Wainwright of the St. Louis Cardinals — are on the mound for the second game of a series in Washington.

— The New York Mets, winners of five of their last six, are in Chicago to take on the Cubs.

— Rich Hill is on the mound for Tampa Bay on the road against Kansas City — and he’s the sixth consecutive lefty starter the Royals will face. Righthander Brad Keller makes his fourth start of the season for the Royals.

— The Arizona Diamondbacks, who took two out of three from the Reds earlier this month in Phoenix, are in Cincinnati for the opener of a three-game set.

— Milwaukee Brewers righthander Corbin Burnes is scheduled to start the middle game of the series with the Padres against righty Chris Paddack.

— Righthander Zack Wheeler starts for the Phillies against Logan Webb of the Giants in Philadelphia.

— The Boston Red Sox open a two-game series against Toronto at Fenway.

— The Colorado Rockies are at home for the start of an interleague series against the Astros.

— The Pittsburgh Pirates are in Detroit for the start of a three-game series.

— The Marlins begin a two-game interleague series in Miami against the Baltimore Orioles.

New York’s other NBA team, the Brooklyn Nets, play at New Orleans. They’ll be without Kevin Durant, who has a thigh injury and is missing his 34th game this season. James Harden is also out again with a hamstring injury.

Also on the NBA schedule:

NHL-SCHEDULE

Central battle continues

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The battle for first place in the NHL’s Central Division continues in Tampa, where the Lightning will host the Carolina Hurricanes for the second straight night. The defending Stanley Cup champion Lightning are one point behind the co-leaders.

In other NHL action:

— The Boston Bruins, winners of four straight, open a five-game road trip tonight in Buffalo against the Sabres.

NFL-STEELERS-TOMLIN

Steelers coach signs extension

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Mike Tomlin is sticking with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The club announced its longtime coach has signed a contract extension that runs through the 2024 season.

Tomlin is 145-78-1 in 14 years with the Steelers with one Super Bowl victory.

The deal means Tomlin will likely be part of the process whenever quarterback Ben Roethlisberger opts to retire. The 39-year-old Roethlisberger is returning for the 2021 season but the team has no heir apparent in place.

In other NFL news:

— Veteran tackle D.J. Fluker has signed a one-year contract with the Miami Dolphins, fortifying an offensive line that had three rookie starters last year. Fluker has 96 career starts with four teams, including eight for the Baltimore Ravens last year. He has also played for the Seahawks, Giants and Chargers, who made him a first-round pick in 2013. The Dolphins ranked 29th in yards per rush last year.
