Former Ala. State Employees Guilty of Tax Evasion
The Alabama Revenue Commissioner says two former state employees have been convicted of income tax evasion and a third has been arrested on similar charges.
Commissioner Julie P. Magee said in a statement Thursday that 50-year-old Michelle Irvin Zeigler of Prattville is ordered to serve two years of supervised probation. Zeigler is also ordered to pay the department nearly $14,000 in restitution and additional court costs.
Magee says 48-year-old Judy Smith Horn also pleaded guilty Monday and is ordered to serve two years of probation. Horn is also ordered to pay more than $6,000 in restitution and court costs.
Magee says an Alabama Department of Corrections employee is also charged with evading her state income taxes between 2008 and 2011 by claiming she was exempt from withholdings.
