It’s a big project moving a road from one spot to another.
The city of Montgomery has been working for almost a year to figure out exactly how to make Ann Street and Federal Drive meet.
City Engineer Patrick Dunson says the plan is about 80 percent complete.
“It’s a very busy intersection, an important, what I call a north-south corridor there. Once realigned it’ll make a much smoother transition for people to get to and from the interstate I think and also to get off the interstate, if you wanted to head north toward 231 or if you’re coming from that direction,” said Dunson.
One of the biggest problems is getting all the land for the project.
Dunson says there will be an S-curve, branching off just after Lee High School.
“In the mornings and the evenings when school gets out that’s, we get a peak time, a peak rush where students are getting picked up and dropped off. We’re working to in this project to hopefully improve the flow of that traffic for vehicles and buses but also for pedestrian traffic,” said Dunson.
Some businesses in the area are looking forward to the change.
Devonnah McLean cuts hair at VIP barber shop right at the intersection.
“I think that’ll get the business over quicker. I think they’ll keep driving, like it won’t stop up traffic, won’t be a whole bunch of traffic at 5 o’clock in the evening because there be a whole bunch of traffic around here. It’ll stop car wrecks and all that too,” said McLean.
Dunson says this will probably take a few years to pull off. He expects construction to start sometime in 2017.
The price tag for this project should come in around four or five million dollars.
