ASU Board of Trustees Approve Administrative Restructuring Chart

Changes are on the way to Alabama State University’s administration.

The university’s Board of Trustees voted to approve a chart, reshuffling some of the university’s top positions. It eliminates the positions of executive vice president and vice president of university relations, now held by John Knight and Danielle Kennedy. Both have announced they are resigning for reasons unrelated to the reshuffling.

President Gwendolyn Boyd says the new structure streamlines the administration and cuts costs. After several failed votes about when the new structure goes into effect, the board agreed to let Boyd decide. She says she hopes to have everything in place before students start school in the fall.

“As with anything, as you pull back the first layer of the onion, you may find something you didn’t know was there, so i appreciate the flexibility. we’re excited about July 1, but if it turns out to be August 1, you know, for some of the pieces of it, but we can’t wait for august 1 for the entire piece,” said Boyd.

Governor Robert Bentley presided over the meeting, also swearing in two new trustees, Elmore County Schools Superintendent Jeff Langham and Regions Bank Vice President Angela McKenzie.
