Hands On Banking Experience For High Schoolers In Pike Co.

High schoolers in Pike County are getting real life banking experience this summer, while making money themselves.Â
Â
Upcoming seniors from across the county spend one week at a paid internship with the First National Bank in Brundidge. In the more than five years of the summer program, each year there’s been between 15 and 20 student interns.Â
Â
Many come from Pike County High School’s business and finance academy. Students with high grade point averages and an interest in the banking industry are selected.Â
Â
The interns spend time in each department of the bank, learning everything from the bank’s history and setting up accounts, to working with customers and tellers.Â
Â
Adrian Fisher, an intern said, “I’m not really good with money so it taught me how to be financially stable.”
Â
Armando Arroyo, an intern said, “Well the things that I have enjoyed learning the most are loans. I’ve never really had the subject of talking about loans so it is new to me. So I enjoyed learning about it.”
Â
Each week of the summer the bank will have two new interns. On top of being paid, their performance during the internship goes into their overall class grade.Â
