Victims’ Names Released in Memorial Day Shootings

The Montgomery Police Department has initiated a homicide investigation and a death investigation following the Monday, May 30, shooting that fatally wounded two Montgomery men.

MPD and Fire Medics responded to the 4700 block Park Towne Way at about 3:45 a.m. Monday after receiving a report of shots fired. There, they located 21-year-old John Riley, who had sustained fatal wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second subject involved in the shooting, Quarnavious Hamilton, 24, had been transported to a local hospital by personal vehicle and later was pronounced dead.

MPD’s investigation indicates the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute between the two. The department is investigating Riley’s death as a homicide and Hamilton’s as a death investigation based on evidence that indicating that Hamilton was the primary aggressor in the shooting. The investigation indicates further that Riley returned fire, fatally wounding Hamilton in defense.
