Heart Patients with Dementia More Likely to Need Pacemaker

Heart patients with dementia are more likely to get pacemakers than heart patients who do not have cognitive difficulties.

That’s the surprising finding of a new study out of the University of Pittsburgh.

Researchers found those with dementia were 1.6 times more likely to get the implant than those who had no memory problems.

Researchers say their finding calls into question whether the aggressive treatment is appropriate for patients with such a disabling and incurable disease.
