Generals work the broom, sweeping 5 games from Biscuits

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (biscuitsbaseball.com) – For the first time in their history, the Jackson Generals swept the Montgomery Biscuits at Riverwalk Stadium on Thursday night by a score of 10-2.

The eight-run loss marked the first time the Biscuits have been swept since last July away at Pensacola, and the first time they have been swept at home since 2014 by the Chattanooga Lookouts. Jackson’s starter Paul Blackburn twirled seven shutout innings for his first win as a General, and the Biscuits went on to set a team record by going 30 consecutive innings without scoring a run, beating the old record of 28 set in 2004.

Yonny Chirinos was on the mound for the Biscuits and would allow five runs on nine hits through five innings on his way to just his second Double-A loss, and the Generals picked up two RBI from left fielder Leon Landry, and one each from Benji Gonzalez, Tim Lopes, Tyler O’Neill, Marcus Littlewood, Adam Law, and Ian Miller to increase their first-place lead in the second half North Division to 3.5 games.

The Biscuits finally broke their scoreless drought with two outs in the bottom of the ninth on a fielder’s choice by Kean Wong, and an RBI-single by Armando Araiza, which gave the Biscuits their first two runs since Monday. They will look to get back on track on Friday night when they head north to open up a five-game series with the Tennessee Smokies at 7:05 PM when Chase Whitley (0-0) takes on Tyler Skulina.
