Law Enforcement Agencies and Local Businesses in South Alabama Give Back

Law enforcement and businesses from south alabama are joining forces. It’s all in the hope to help victims of child abuse and neglect
It’s not like what it used to be for some organizations trying to get donations where they can just get them in the mail. Now organizations like the Butler County Children’s advocacy center have to get money by throwing events like their annual golf tournament to help children struggling with abuse.
For Kathy Smyth, Director of Butler County’s Safe Harbor Children Advocacy Center getting funding is a constant struggle. This year money is so tight they’re open only 4 days a week
“Thats just one way we’re try to manage the reduction in funding for us this year.” Said Smyth.
It’s why the advocacy center turns to their biggest fundraiser of the year. The Pro Law Am Golf Tournament Dozens of law enforcement agencies and businesses from South Alabama came together for this event every year. Not only are they playing for fun. They’re donating money for children struggling with abuse.
“I’ll think it would leave a major deficit in this city if the childrens advocacy center wasnt there these kids they need the attention they’re the one’s we need to focus on.” Said Greenville Investigator Justin Lovvorn.
While the funding has decreased the crime has not. The Safe Harbor adcocacy center does about a hundred forensic interviews a year with children who have witnessed crimes.
They say even a few dollars goes a long way.
This is the 16-th year the tournament has been held. If you’d like to help the Safe Harbor Children’s Advocacy Center you can call 382-8584
