Hundreds Come Out for 6th Annual Rally in the Alley

The Alley in downtown Montgomery played host to the 6th Annual Rally in the Alley tonight, a night of mingling and entertainment, all for a good cause.
“Each and every one of you is here for a reason,” says Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange. “You’re here because you care.”
The 6th Annual Rally in the Alley was held in downtown Montgomery Thursday evening. The event is the official campaign kickoff for the River Region United Way, an organization that helps to connect people with resources.
“We’re kicking off our annual campaign so that people can join United Way and help us all live united as we raise money to help fund the agencies that we work with,” says River Region United Way President Jimmy Hill.
Brantwood Children’s Home is one of those agencies. United Way makes up more than 10 percent of what the children’s home brings in each year.
“We raise children,” says Brantwood Executive Director Kim Herbert. “We provide a home. We take young people that have been removed from families and give them a place to grow up here in the River Region.”
The River Region United Way partners with 40 agencies and serves more than 135 thousand people in areas like health, education and income.
“One of the main premises of Emerge is to improve the conditions of society so one of the premiere service organizations is United Way,” says torchbearer Robert Stewart.
Rally in the Alley is put on by Emerge Montgomery, a group of young professionals.
“Emerge Montgomery is a well developed organization for young leaders here in Montgomery,” says Nia Pagniacci. “And we all just get together and try to share a vision where we see Montgomery going.”
“If you want to serve, this is a great outlet to do it,” says Hill.
The River Region United Way has set a goal to raise more than 5 million dollars this year to serve those agencies they partner with.
