Crenshaw County’s public fishing lake reopens Friday
LUVERNE, Ala. (outdooralabama.com) — The Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries (WFF) and the City of Luverne Parks and Recreation Department have partnered to reopen Crenshaw County Public Fishing Lake at sunrise on Friday, October 7, 2016. The lake will be open from dawn to dusk five days a week and closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The 53-acre lake is located at 1075 County Lake Road just south of Luverne, Ala.
The lake closed in July 2016 due to the resignation of the previous lake manager. During the closure, WFF staff and Luverne officials agreed the city would operate the lake. As the first state lake, Crenshaw County Lake completed its first full year of operation in 1950. More than 50 years later, this new partnership continues the tradition of providing Alabamians with quality fishing opportunities.
The lake offers public restrooms, a covered fishing pier, a covered pavilion and a boat ramp. Bait, fishing tackle and snacks may be purchased at the lake. In addition to a valid fishing license, a daily $3 fishing permit is required for anglers 12 years old and older to fish. Boats may be rented for $5 and privately owned boats may be launched for $3. All other fishing regulations and creel limits apply. Fishing licenses are available for purchase at the lake’s bait shop, or online at www.outdooralabama.com/licenses.
