MPS Taking Extra Precautions For The Enterovirus

Montgomery Public Schools are taking extra precautions after a virus sent hundreds of Mid-Western States children to the hospital. Every school in the system is getting a thorough cleaning to prevent the spread of the Enterovirus. The virus is a respiratory disease that can look like a cold. The Alabama Department of Public Health is working with the CDC to prevent a breakout of the disease. The virus is sending as many as 30 kids a day to the hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. A school system spokeswoman says they’re taking the virus seriously.

“Normally we wait till the beginning of the flu season to start our sanitation procedures but we’re moving that up a little bit. We’re concerned that with this virus being so rampant in our area we want to make sure that all the common areas of our schools are clean.” says Mona Davis from Montgomery Public Schools.

Students are out today for a teacher work day, so Montgomery Public Schools employees are sanitizing every classroom.
