Golf Tournament Means Boom For Business

The LPGA is taking over Prattville as the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic Golf tournament comes to town.

With tournament play starting Thursday, how much of an impact has the event had already on the local community?

Some of the best golfers in the world have made Prattville their home for the week.

But it’s more than just the golfers.

They bring family, friends, as well as fans to town with them.

And that means more meals at restaurants like Jim N’ Nicks.

“Some of the Pro Am are coming in and they’ll be in our pitmaster room. We’re also going to be able to cater to some of the players out at the robert trent jones. We’re very excited about that and we’re excited that our restaurant is full,” said Davida Larson with the restaurant.

This is only the beginning of all the action.

Players and fans will be around through Sunday for the full tournament.

Dan Chapman is a caddy that came all the way from California for the event.

He’s been coming for about 10 years and says it’s one of his favorite spots.

“It’s a good slice of that alabama hospitality and the weather difference from what I’m used to. I like the barbecue around here,” said Chapman.

The LPGA missed out on coming to Prattville last year because the old sponsor, Navistar, pulled out. Businesses are glad to see such a big event back in the community. Chapman says that even though it’s only been a few years since he was last here, things have changed a lot.

“This exit used to not be as built up as it is now. Now there are lots of choice and this is one of my favorite choices so far this year,” said Chapman.

City leaders estimate the impact from the tournament should be around 7 million dollars this year.
