Every day, approximately 112 Americans take their own life. Suicide doesn’t discriminate, something the Troy community knows all too well.
But, a group of high school students are trying to turn a dark issue into something lighthearted. To get people talking and hopefully prevent suicides in the future.
An orange toilet’s been floating around Troy. People have to pay 30 dollars to get the toilet out of their yard.
Charles Henderson students are raising money for suicide prevention, after classmate Kristal Ross took her own life last year. Friends and classmates say they don’t want her life to be defined by her passing and this fundraiser has been a positive way to cope.
Cassidy Oswald, a CHHS Senior said, “It’s hard to start the conversation on a good note but you start talking about the toilet and then you start telling stories and then it’s good.”
The Charles Henderson students set their goal to raise 500 dollars. They are already at more than
$2,000.
They are raising money leading up to a suicide prevention walk at Troy University on Sunday. If you want more information on how to donate visit: http://afsp.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.participant&participantID=783648
