Violent Week in Montgomery
Crimestoppers' Tony Garrett says he's not surprised to see an uptick in crime this time of year.
Montgomery police are investigating two homicides.
The first shooting happened Wednesday at 10 p.m. in the the 4100 block of Fitzpatrick Boulevard.
The victim has been identified as 27 year old Roderick Bell.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second shooting happened just after 1:00 a.m. in 300 block of Burgwyn Road, that’s off the East South Boulevard.
That victim has been identified as 31 year old of Jacurtis Howard.
No arrests have been made in either shooting.
Tony Garrett with Central Area Crimestoppers says the uptick in crimes is expected this time of year.
“Domestic violence type crimes, violent crimes. I don’t know if it’s the holidays or the season change, but normally this time of year we do see an increase in violent type crimes,” said Garrett.
He says his phone has been ringing continuously with Crimestoppers tips.
He says any information about the cases are turned over to police and the caller can always remain anonymous.
“A reason someone might call 215-stop instead of the police, a lot of times they may be involved or they may have a relative or they may be close to the crime in some fashion. So Crimestoppers serves as another way to contact law enforcement safely without identifying themselves,” said Garrett.
There is also an incentive to help solve these crimes.
“On any unsolved homicide, we automatically put up a thousand dollars. We feel that it is needed.”
If you have any information on these cases, call 215-STOP.
