Kasidy Thompson signs with AUM for 2018

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (aumathletics.com) —- Auburn Montgomery head softball coach Eric Newell has announced the signing of shortstop Kasidy Thompson for the 2018 season.

Thompson will join the Warhawks from Handley High School in Roanoke, Ala., where she has lettered in softball for five seasons and volleyball for four years.

“I have been eying Kasidy for a long time,” Newell said of Thompson. “She is one of the best defensive shortstops I have seen since coming to Alabama. She has had a strong prep career and is a winner. She is an extremely hard worker, both on the field and in the classroom, so we are extremely excited about adding her to our program.”

Last season, Thompson helped HHS to a 46-14-1 record and a fourth-place finish in the Class 4A Alabama High School Athletic Association State Tournament. Additionally, she led the Tigers to the county championship the past four seasons, the area championship the last three years and the region championship in 2016.

Individually, she was selected the county MVP in 2013, 2014 and 2016, as well as the all-area team as a freshman and junior. During her junior campaign, she was selected the area most valuable player after hitting .354, with 49 runs scored, 48 runs batted in and 15 stolen bases. She hit 10 home runs and ripped 18 doubles. Thompson also finished 9-4 with a 2.14 ERA in the circle.

Thompson played travel ball for several teams, including the Thundercats, Georgia Scream, Birmingham Vipers, Bama Babes, Team Alabama and Bama Extreme.

While at AUM, Thompson intends to study biology/pre-health science, while minoring in Spanish.
