Discussion Over Ukraine, Russia Continues In Troy

It’s been 25 years since the end of the Cold War. But with tensions running high as conflict continues in Russia and Ukraine, could we be entering into another Cold War?

That was the focus of a panel discussion at Troy University.

Three different professionals and specialists weighed in on the current situation between Ukraine and Russia.

Russia’s been accused of providing weapons for rebels in Eastern Ukraine and there’s questions on how the United States should be involved if at all.

Michael Slobodchikoff, lecturer Political Science said, “Cautious optimism that eventually maybe that they will be able to pick back up where they left off although it’ll take them a long time to get there. The pessimistic outlook is that we really are entering into another Cold War and it will be until the end of the current administration in Russia and the United States before we can get some progress in the relations.”

There’s a cease fire in place, but one Troy University student from Eastern Ukraine says the violence still continues in her hometown.
