Races to Watch in Pike County

Pike County voters are taking to the polls casting votes for three closely watched races, for three positions held by their incumbents for decades.
First up we have the sheriff’s race. Russell Thomas has been the sheriff for the last 20 years. Troy Police Sergeant Jason Youngblood’s been in law enforcement for more than 15 years and is running as the Republican candidate.
The revenue commissioner’s race is also one to watch. Curtis Blair’s been the county’s tax collector for 17 years. But a political newcomer is hoping to add revenue commissioner to his resume. Bo Weed is a businessman and pastor and now the republican candidate in the race. He says conservative values will make the county, and our country more financially responsible. Blair says his office has made positive changes for the county, like adding more online resources.
We are also following the Alabama House of Representatives District 89 Race. Alan Boothe and Joel Lee Williams faced off in 1998 in the democratic primary that went into a run off. Boothe won and has held the seat, unopposed since then. But once again the two are on the ballot against each other. Both candidates say teacher pay and Alabama’s education system are their top priorities if elected. This district covers all of Pike and a portion of Dale County.
