Calmer Today, Cold Front Arrives Tonight
Dense morning fog throughout Central Alabama this morning. It will be a very warm day with highs in the 70s. The air mass has not changed all that much from yesterday. The main surface front pushes through the state late tonight and the front will provide some uplift for a relatively unstable air mass. However, a very strong capping inversion is expected to be in place and that should limit our convection. However, some showers and storms are possible along this boundary, as it moves through the state tonight. The main threat from storms tonight will come from large hail and damaging wind gusts. The tornado threat at this time is very low.
END OF WORK WEEK COOL DOWN: The cold front will pass through the area tonight, and will bring us a change to colder weather. Thursday should be mainly sunny, with breezy conditions and colder temperatures. Highs tomorrow will only be around the 60° mark, and a brisk north wind, it will be feeling much colder. We drop to near freezing by early Friday. Then, Friday will be sunny and cool with a high in the lower 60s.
WARMER WEEKEND WEATHER: A ridge builds in over the Southeast and the weather will be noticeably warmer. Our winds shift back from the south and with higher thickness vales and a partly sunny sky, we will climb to the mid 70s Saturday afternoon. Saturday will be dry, but a few showers look possible across northern portions of the state. Clouds will be increasing Sunday, as our next storm system approaches. There could be a few showers over Central Alabama Sunday afternoon, but most of Central Alabama should be remain dry. Sunday’s high will be in the upper 70s for most of us.
NEXT WEEK: Better rain chances arrive with a front that moves into the state late Sunday into Monday. Scattered showers are in the forecast Monday, and possibly Tuesday. Temperatures will be in the 60s for highs, while nights will be mild with 50s expected.
Have a great day!
Ryan
