Troy Food World to Close
For people in Troy, the closing of the city’s Food World is a disappointment.
“I really feel within my heart that they taking a good thing from us. We’re going to have to run way over to get something,” says Troy resident Lula Belvin.
But it’s something that is out of the hands of employees.
The store is owned by Homeland Grocers. Right now it employs 30 to 40 people. The store has been a helping hand in the community since 2013.
“We’ve helped with the Child Advocacy Center. We do a lot of donations. We help out with out with all the schools,” says store manager Erika Kilpatrick.
Now all of that is about to end. Everything in the store is 25 percent off. While tobacco and alcohol is 50 percent off.
“We’re completely out of beer. Tobacco is very limited, wine is very limited,” says Kilpatrick.
Throughout the week, customers could possibly see prices on remaining items continue to drop.
“I am very sad because it’s convenient for me and I just enjoy shopping here,” says Troy resident Fannie Crosswell.
“We’re going to miss the community. We’re all just going to have to find new jobs and keep it moving,” says Kilpatrick.
Kilpatrick says she  wants the community to know that Troy’s Food World is not closing due to the opening of Publix. It’s simply their company’s decision to close. February 24th is the tentative date they plan to close. The store will close after that day depending on how much inventory is left in the store.
