Black Belt Community Foundation of Selma Awards Grants

From the West Alabama Newsroom– One of the poorest areas in the country will soon get some much needed help. The Black Belt Community Foundation awards more than $400,000 dollars in grants to help continue its efforts to transform the Black Belt.
The BBCF is on a mission to improve the graduation rate — and reduce the drop out rate among young black males.
The foundation awarded grants to ten non-profit organizations in the Black Belt region that were already working to help get it done.
“We are looking to really start a movement in this work,” said BBCF President Felecia Jones. “The issues that the young men and boys of color face, its not something that’s a one size fits all solution.”
“Its not something that the BBCF alone, can do, even if partnering with those ten organizations. So, we want to invite all to come with us to help us actually do this work.”
The awards were funded through a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation of New Jersey — a public health philanthropy organization.
