Rev. Jesse Jackson on Bridge Crossing Jubilee

Reverend Jesse Jackson stopped by the Alabama News Network studios Friday for a one-on-one interview.  He’s in town for the Bridge Crossing Jubilee.  He says it’s an event that is very special to him.

This year, though, there’s been some controversy surrounding the annual event with disputes between organizers and Selma Mayor Darrio Melton about payment for city services.

“The organizers are hurting they want the free access to our monument, the mayor’s hurting he wants to have access to his diminishing resources,” Jackson explained.

He hopes those disputes don’t take away from the event and says the funding could come from a grant for the city.

Outside of Selma, Jackson spoke about President Donald Trump’s time in office.

“Here we are today, name calling and attacking. We are a global nation fighting for isolation,” he shared.

He questions many of the president’s decisions so far, saying many of his cabinet appointments came as a surprise.

Jackson will speak Sunday morning at a church service commemorating Bloody Sunday.
