Salvation Army Red Kettles: Where Does Your Dollar Go?

If you’re out and about this weekend, you may hear some familiar sounds of the season. The Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign is underway. Bell ringers are out now, collecting donations to help families in need right here in our area.

After you drop your dollar in the kettle, it goes to support the Salvation Army’s mission. Last year, the Montgomery shelter housed about a thousand people, sometimes more than 75 a night, providing hot lunches to about 80 people, anyone who needs the help. During the Christmas season, there’s a special mission to make the season brighter for families and children.

“I worked at the Salvation Army, and just to see their little faces light up when we brought the gifts to them just really brightens my heart,” said Kim Wilkinson, who donated on the first day of the drive.

Alabama News Network is partnering with the Salvation Army to help reach its fundraising goal this year.

The organization wants to raise $300,000 locally by Christmas Eve.
