MPD Charges Suspect in Easter Night Shooting

The Montgomery Police Department has charged a suspect in the homicide of 19-year old Caleb Royal. Royal was pronounced dead at a local hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound Sunday night, April 16.

MPD detectives charged Latoya Sanders, 26, of Montgomery with murder in connection with the shooting. Sanders was taken into custody and transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility, where she was being held under a $150,000.

MPD and Fire Medics responded to the 4000 block of Amesbury Drive after receiving a report of a subject shot. There they located the victim, who had sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was transported to Baptist Medical Center South, where he later died from his injuries.

The circumstances of the shooting initially were unknown, but MPD’s investigation determined that the incident was related to an altercation earlier in the day involving the victim and a third individual known to both victim and suspect. Police identified Sanders as the suspect and placed her under arrest.

At this point in the investigation, no additional information is available for release.
