The Governor is in the nation’s capitol to persuade Congress to pass a long-term transportation funding bill.

The Govenor testified before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee.

Bentley urged Congress to pass a long-term bill of at least five years before the present highway funding law ends in May.

He said states need the certainty of a long-term bill, rather than a short-term measure, so they can plan for major projects that are financed with both state and federal funds.

There’s been a growing need in recent years to improve the nation’s aging and crumbling road and bridge infrastructure.

Bentley wasn’t the only Governor Testifying for the Senate committee today. Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin jonied Bentley in pressing for the need for a long term highway spending bill.
