Not everyone is pleased
Montgomery Public School officials have scheduled four meetings with parents this coming week to explain their decision to close several schools. Here’s their announcement with the dates, places and times of the meetings:
Montgomery Public Schools have scheduled a series of public informational meetings concerning the closing of four schools and the resulting necessary rezoning.
The meetings are scheduled for March 20 at Dozier Elementary, March 21 at Chisholm Elementary, March 22 at Floyd Elementary, and March 26 at Georgia Washington Middle schools. All meetings will begin at 6:00 p.m.
The same information will be offered at all four meetings, so parents may attend the one that is most convenient. Specifics on the meeting format and links to online resources that parents may view in advance of the meetings, will be provided as soon as they are finalized.

CONCERN CITIZENS VOW TO TAKE BACK MPSMontgomery, AL A group of concerned citizens and some members of the Montgomery County Board of Education are calling a special community meeting on Saturday, February 24 at 9 a.m. at 424 South Decatur Street, Montgomery, AL 36104.
The purpose of this meeting is to take back Montgomery County Public school system from the State Department of Education. Dr. Ed Richardson is acting State Superintendent of Education. According to the Alabama League for the Advancement of Education, he has usurped the authority of the duly elected Montgomery County Board of Education and is bent on seizing property that rightfully belongs to and under the jurisdiction of the Montgomery County Board of Education.
The league states that Dr. Richardson wants to give this property to the school system he helped create in Pike Road. “He has a conflict of interest, he is pro charter schools, and he is against Montgomery Public Schools where most of the students are black. Dr. Richardson’s ultimate goal is to re-segregate public schools in Montgomery. Unless we, the good people of this city, stand up, Montgomery Public Schools, as we know, it will be destroyed.”
This is an open meeting and everyone is welcome.
