On Monday same sex couples will be able to marry in Alabama. After a federal judge rules the state’s ban is unconstitutional.

But this weekend, protests were held across the state. One group took their message to the Capital steps.

About one hundred people came together  as Christians standing their ground on Alabama’s Sanctity of Marriage constitutional amendment.

Across the street a group staged a counter-rally supporting marriage equality. A different side to the debate, but in agreement on their right to peacefully protest.

Michael Tate, brought his family to Sanctity of Marriage rally said,  “It’s obvious that in most countries you are not able to do this and we feel that God has given us this opportunity and we should take advantage of it.”

Madison Clark, from Montgomery, supports marriage equality said, “It’s part of that idea of being a true American speaking out, you know against what is wrong and unjust. Supposedly that is what our country is founded on so it just seems our responsibility, our obligation to seek out the great good for everybody.”

At the end of the rally there was conversation between the two sides. The pastor went and spoke with the same sex marriage supporters. And had a civil debate.
