It’s been a year since the State Board of Education took over Selma City Schools.

Dr. Larry DiChiara says the Selma City School system is in far better shape than it was a year ago.

The state intervened in the school system after an investigation found academic and sexual misconduct in the district.

Dichiara says improvements have been made in the areas of human resource — student safety — finance — academic integrity and leadership.

“Those were our priority areas so we were doing a combination of running the district like a normal superintendent and staff would do plus doing the intervention improvements that we were sent here to do. So, we’ve covered a lot of ground in a short period of time.” says DiChiara.

The school district is now in the middle of searching for a new superintendent.
