DOJ Makes Several Arrests on Drug Trafficking Charges

Alabama authorities say several people have been arrested on federal and state charges following a lengthy investigation into drug trafficking in Montgomery. The suspects are accused of distributing crack and crack cocaine.
State Attorney General Luther Strange said Tuesday the arrests following a five-month investigation in which evidence gathered through wiretaps and surveillance resulted in both state and federal indictments.
Agencies involved included the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the State Bureau of Investigation and Montgomery police.
An indictment returned earlier this month by a Montgomery County grand jury charged the defendants ranging in age from 24 to 64. They face charges of conspiracy to violate Alabama’s Anti-Drug Trafficking Enterprise Act, a felony punishable by 25 years to life in prison. The suspects face additional charges in U.S. District Court.
