Two Escaped Alabama Prisoners Recaptured

Jermey James McCormickTory Mondale ElliottTwo state work release inmates are back in custody following their escape from two separate job sites on March 2.  Officials with the Alabama Department of Corrections report that 39-year-old Jermey James McCormick, and Tory Mondale Elliott, 37, were recaptured on Thursday.

McCormick was recaptured in Montgomery at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Thursday after ADOC investigators received a tip that he was sighted in the area.  With assistance from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the Montgomery Police Department, ADOC investigators took McCormick into custody without incident.

McCormick was assigned to the Childersburg Work Release Center when left a job site in Sylacauga on Wednesday.  He was serving a 30-year sentence on a 2009 conviction for manufacturing a controlled substance in Randolph County.  McCormick was eligible for work release based on a parole date in April.

Elliott was serving his sentence at the Decatur Work Release Center when he left a job site in Huntsvilleon Wednesday.  Elliott returned to the job site early Thursday where he called the Decatur Work Release Center to turn himself in.  In 2011, Elliott received a 25-year sentence for first-degree robbery in Madison County.   Elliott was eligible for parole in 2018.
