Late high school basketball star honored with jersey retirement
Lee High School retired the basketball jersey of Rod Scott to commemorate his passing.

Montgomery, AL (www.waka.com)— Lee High School honored the passing of former basketball star Rod Scott by retiring his jersey number. Scott passed away in March as a result of injuries he sustained from a car accident. Scott’s family, friends, coaches and teammates attended the ceremony to commemorate his passing.
“It was bittersweet. I thought Roderic look at what you did,” said Renita Scott, Scott’s mother.
“He got a chance to do what I didn’t,” Scott’s father Rodney Scott said. “When I saw it drop, it just let me know he’s okay now.”
Scott’s parents wish they could tell their son how proud they are of him, but instead will settle for knowing the impact he left on those around him.
“He was always a good person and good to everybody. He was a hard worker,” Scott’s teammate Henry Ruggs said. Â “It’s good to know that all the hard work he put in this gym stays here with his jersey.”
