Remembering former CBS News photographer Clarence Gibbons of Prattville
Clarence Gibbons of Prattville, who witnessed history as a photographer for CBS News, has died at 87.
Action 8 News Anchor Darryl Hood interviewed Gibbons in 2015 as part of our television special on the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday. Gibbons graciously shared his memories of shooting film and video of some of the most important events in U.S. history over his long career.
Those events included many civil rights moments and other milestones, some of them tragic. The images he shot are still being shown on TV today.
After Gibbons left CBS News, he returned home to our area and spent many years as a videographer at WSFA before retiring from television.
Gibbons died December 3. His memorial service was held this past weekend at First Baptist Church in Prattville.
All of us at Action 8 News send our sympathies to his family, his countless friends and those who still admire his work in capturing the news.
