Faulkner University working to keep teen drivers safe on the road

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, which is one reason why Faulkner University wants to help teenage drivers stay safe when they hit the road.

At Faulkner University’s “Eyes Up!” Safe Driving and College Awareness event, local students got the chance to learn about the dangers of distracted and impaired driving and ways to prevent accidents.

They tried their hand at a driving simulator which puts them in the position of a driver trying to operate a vehicle while battling different distractions.

“I’m just thankful that we’re able to have this opportunity today,” Patsy Hughes, the director of the risk management and insurance program told Action 8 News. “To meet with young people and help them as they move toward their future and encourage them to drive safely.”

We’re excited to participate with the University of Alabama’s Social Sciences department and promote how to be better drivers. Also, the benefits of majoring in the degree of risk management and insurance,” Rayla Black, the College of Business chair, said.

Students got to learn about Faulkner’s College of Business, which includes a risk management and insurance program.
